VALLEY MILLS – A few miles east of Valley Mills, straddling the Bosque/McLennan county lines, sprawls China Spring Estates, several hundred acres of rolling prairie that form what is possibly Bosque County’s strangest subdivision.
It’s a subdivision that at least a few residents would like to change.
From a distance China Spring Estates might appear like any other new country development, home sites spotted at intermittent intervals in a bucolic setting far away from the bustle and roar of the city.
On closer inspection, however, many of the 70-plus structures in China Spring Estates would hardly qualify as “homes.” Instead, they are decrepit, virtually uninhabitable single-wide trailers, propped precariously on cinderblocks: hovels with no water, electricity or septic systems, broken windows, missing doors, strips of siding ripped away to leave insulation flapping uselessly in the wind.

For many children, camp is as essential a part of summer as hot dogs and popsicles.
But what about children who suffer from a chronic illness such as spina bifida or cancer and can’t do the normal things most other kids do at camp?
Camp John Marc in Bosque County offers those children with chronic illnesses or major physical disabilities and their families an opportunity to enjoy the full camp experience year round without having to worry about their health.
Each summer, Camp John Marc hosts a number of different camps for children with disabilities.  Each camp gets about one to two weeks during their 11 week summer period.

IREDELL - The Iredell Fuel and Feed has been sold to Petroleum Wholesale Inc., even as the company was being cited for cheating customers at other stations by overcharging for gas.
The sale of the Iredell facility comes after a long and frustrating battle over corroded pumps and equipment that resulted in the store closing down in June.
Diane Winchester, the former owner of the Fuel and Feed, said that she sold the store to the company over the July 18-19 weekend.
At the same time, unknown to Winchester, the Texas Department of Agriculture was conducting a three-day investigation of Petroleum Wholesale’s Sunmart stations. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples said that investigation showed that numerous Sunmart gas stations have cheated customers by giving them less fuel than they purchased.
